Leclanché announces the launch of the Ti-Box

Tue Mar 25
  • Provides a comprehensive home storage solution for solar generated electricity
  • Designed for the residential market, allows to increase self-consumption on energy

Yverdon-les-Bains, Switzerland, March 25, 2014 – Leclanché S.A. (SIX Swiss Exchange: LECN), specialized in the production of large-format lithium-ion cells and energy storage solutions, today announces the launch of its Ti-Box, an energy storage product for the residential market. This energy storage solution is designed to optimise and increase the private consumption of self-generated renewable energy, in particular solar energy. The Ti-Box is being launched on schedule, following the successful completion of the CE and UN38 certifications.
The Ti-Box energy storage battery can be connected to a residential photovoltaic system in order to store energy generated by the photovoltaic system in Leclanché’s proprietary lithium-ion titanate cells. This launch represents therefore an important step in using energy saving technologies to shift consumption of electricity generated by the sun to night or periods of the day when levels of sunlight are low. This will increase the proportion of own consumption of onsite-generated photovoltaic electricity, encourage the decentralized use of electricity and therefore keep the electricity in the public grid.
The Ti-Box will be distributed through a network of professional installers selected by Leclanché in Europe.
The launch coincides with the presence of Leclanché at Storage Day organized in by Solar Allianz in Dusseldorf during Energy Storage, the international conference and exhibition for the storage of renewable energies (25-27 March 2014).

Unique product features
The Ti-Box, comprises 44 large format lithium-ion titanate cells and incorporates electronics and a software control system that has been designed and developed by Leclanché. The cells have an expected calendar life of 20 years and are capable of up to 15,000 cycles, making them one of the most durable cells on the market. With safety as a top priority, the Leclanché cells incorporate a proprietary, patented ceramic separator and a very stable electro-chemical structure, which together are designed to minimise the risk of thermal runaway.
Single energy storage units incorporate a modular design, which will facilitate the implementation of further product upgrades, including multiple energy router compatibility and the ability to have up to three units stacked in parallel. The battery unit can be monitored via an optional energy router internet access portal.
The Ti-Box development program was driven by a joint in-house team based in Yverdon-les Bains, Switzerland and Willstaett, Germany, and the unit is produced in Willstaett, where the cell mass production facility is also located.
