Leclanché completes its battery-based energy storage systems with a major acquisition

Thu Aug 13
  • Acquisition of design and IP rights for modules and battery management system software from ADS-TEC GmbH
  • Plans to invest in a module assembly facility at its Yverdon-les-Bains site in Switzerland
  • Significantly improved competitive position and margins

Leclanché today announced an acquisition to strengthen its product range for stationary storage applications and insourced manufacturing capacity in Switzerland. This complements the recent acquisition of Trineuron, focused on transport applications. These acquisitions will allow Leclanché to control all aspects of the technology from cells manufacturing to complete system design, modules assembly and installation. Thus, the company can improve its competitive position and margins while providing optimized best-in-class solutions to its customers, for the broadest range of stationary and transport applications. Leclanché continues to position itself as one of the few companies manufacturing and offering both power-intensive and high energy density lithium-ion storage solutions together with multiple application-specific system designs.

Yverdon-les-Bains, 13 August 2015 – With the acquisition of design, IP rights for modules and battery management system (BMS) software, and production knowhow of the battery system technology developed by ADS-TEC, Leclanché reinforces its strategy to position itself as a complete solutions provider. ADS-TEC, based in Nürtingen (Germany), has been a partner of Leclanché for many years and has developed state-of-art modules, BMS and master control systems using Leclanché’s cell technology for stationary applications. These battery storage systems have been used in customer applications for many years and have proven their quality in demanding applications.

The transaction is a shares and cash deal with consideration in the form of 1,000,000 (one million) Leclanche shares and two million euros in cash.

Anil Srivastava, CEO of Leclanché, commented: “These acquisitions have propelled the company into new space, to be amongst a select few energy storage players in the industry with complete vertical integration capabilities from cell manufacturing to full storage systems delivery. This is a strong proof of the company continuing to execute its growth plans, as per previously communicated strategy. With the phased transition of manufacturing from ADS-TEC to Leclanché in Switzerland, we will continue to serve our customers without any interruption whilst substantially increasing our manufacturing base and total solutions provision within Switzerland”.
