Leclanché’s Fortius-145 Commercial Vehicle Battery to be Featured at Upcoming SOLUTRANS 2023 Expo in Lyon

Mon Nov 20

  • New Fortius-145 battery system to be revealed for the first time at SOLUTRANS, the global hub for heavy & light commercial vehicles.
  • The chassis-mounted pack comes equipped with new generation of Lithium-ion NMCA cells, set to deliver industry-leading cycle life.
  • Designed according to ECE R100.03 and to meet ingress protection rating IP 69K.

YVERDON-LES-BAINS, Switzerland, 20th November 2023 – Leclanché SA (SIX: LECN), one of the world’s leading energy storage solutions companies, will be showcasing its latest battery pack, the Fortius-145, for the commercial vehicle industry at the upcoming SOLUTRANS 2023 trade fair from the 21-25th of November in Lyon, France.

Leclanché will have its latest commercial vehicle battery system, the Fortius-145 on display (picture available here), marking its first industry appearance. The 147-kWh pack will be equipped with Leclanché’s newest generation of Lithium-ion NMCA cells, which are set to deliver industry-leading cycle life and will be available for delivery to customers in 2025.

The system will be powered using the Company’s M3 module technology in a new and unique configuration, employed to maximise packaging efficiency and energy density. With more energy available in the given space, the vehicles range is improved, allowing it to be used for longer intervals before charging. The Fortius-145 is design optimised for chassis mounting in heavy trucks and is also suited for a range of other applications, including electric buses, agricultural and construction machinery.

The energy storage system will have a scalable configuration, enabling up to four battery units to be combined depending on the needs of the customer, for a total of 588 kWh.

With increasing demand for the electrification of heavy-duty vehicles, Leclanché’s diverse offering allows us to cater to a range of companies to suit their needs, through our flexible systems and the constantly improving performance of our technology. Leclanché’s new Fortius-145 can help heavy duty vehicle manufacturers and designers to electrify their fleets more quickly and with proven state-of-the-art lithium-ion battery technology,” said Gerardo Gimeno, VP of Ground Transport at Leclanché.

In-house production and safety at every level

The new system, including the high-energy cells through to the complete battery pack, is manufactured by Leclanché in Europe. A wide range of safety features have been integrated into the system, including a functionally safe battery management system (BMS), which is also designed in-house. The Fortius-145 is being developed to be compliant with industry standard UN regulation ECE R100.03, and to meet IP 69K. This is the highest rating on the Ingress Protection (IP) standard which determines that the system will be able to withstand intensive cleaning with close range, high pressure and high temperature jet-washing.
